Microsoft Plans to Bring Dynamics 365 Business Central Data Mirroring to Microsoft Fabric

Microsoft Plans to Bring Dynamics 365 Business Central Data Mirroring to Microsoft Fabric

Microsoft is expanding the data analytics capabilities of Dynamics 365 Business Central with plans to introduce data mirroring to Microsoft Fabric. The new capability is designed to help businesses make enterprise resource planning (ERP) data more accessible for reporting, business intelligence and advanced analytics, while reducing the need for custom-built data extraction processes.

Announced as part of Microsoft’s broader Microsoft Fabric roadmap, the integration will allow organizations to replicate selected Business Central companies and tables into OneLake, Fabric’s unified data storage layer. From there, the data can be used by Power BI, Fabric Data Factory, Fabric IQ and other analytics tools.

According to Microsoft’s published roadmap, the feature is planned for preview in November 2026, with general availability targeted for April 2027. These dates remain subject to change.

Connecting ERP Data with Microsoft Fabric

Dynamics 365 Business Central supports core business functions such as financial management, sales, purchasing, inventory and supply chain operations. Organizations frequently need to combine this operational information with data from other systems to develop consolidated reports and gain a broader view of business performance.

Traditionally, extracting ERP data for analytics can involve APIs, scheduled exports, data transformation pipelines or third-party integration tools. These approaches may require ongoing development and maintenance as reporting requirements evolve.

With data mirroring, Business Central will replicate an initial snapshot of selected data and continue synchronizing subsequent changes to Microsoft Fabric. This approach is intended to provide a more direct, managed route for making ERP information available for analysis.

Microsoft’s documentation describes support for multiple Business Central companies and up to 1,000 selected tables per tenant under the current preview design. Synchronization is expected to capture incremental changes, including deleted records, with updates typically appearing within minutes, depending on data activity and synchronization frequency.

New Opportunities for Power BI and Advanced Analytics

Once Business Central data is available in OneLake, organizations can combine it with information from other business applications and analytical sources.

For example, finance teams could connect general ledger and customer transaction data with sales performance to investigate profitability. Operations teams could analyze inventory movements alongside purchasing information to identify stock imbalances, while management could develop dashboards covering multiple companies or business units.

Microsoft also plans to provide versions of standard Business Central Power BI apps that use data in Fabric, including single-company and multicompany options. Availability may change as the feature progresses through preview.

What Businesses Need to Consider

Data mirroring could simplify analytics architecture, but implementation will still require attention to governance, security and cost. Organizations will need Microsoft Fabric capacity, and applicable Fabric consumption charges will remain relevant even though Microsoft currently states that Business Central does not add a separate mirroring consumption charge.

Administrators will also need to configure the Fabric destination, establish the required application permissions, select companies and tables, and monitor synchronization. The current design mirrors all fields in each selected table, so businesses should carefully evaluate data access and governance requirements before enabling replication.

Because the capability remains in development, organizations should confirm the latest licensing, capacity and technical requirements before planning production deployments.

Key Takeaways

  • Direct data integration: Business Central data will be replicated into Microsoft Fabric’s OneLake.
  • Simplified reporting: Mirrored data can support Power BI dashboards and cross-system analytics.
  • Ongoing synchronization: Initial snapshots and subsequent changes help keep analytical data current.
  • Multiple-company support: Businesses can select the companies and tables relevant to their reporting needs.
  • Planned rollout: Preview is targeted for November 2026, with general availability targeted for April 2027, subject to change.
  • Governance and cost: Fabric capacity, permissions and data management remain important implementation considerations.

A More Connected ERP Analytics Environment

Microsoft’s planned data mirroring capability could make it easier for Business Central customers to turn operational ERP data into actionable business insights. By bringing selected data into Microsoft Fabric, organizations can build more connected reporting environments and combine financial and operational information without relying exclusively on bespoke extraction pipelines.

For businesses already investing in Microsoft’s cloud ecosystem, the integration represents a potential step toward more streamlined analytics, better cross-system visibility and a stronger data foundation for future AI initiatives.
