SAP Expands AI Portfolio for Developers at TechEd, Moving Enterprises from AI That Learns the Business to AI That Runs It

Joule Work, Joule Studio and SAP Business AI Platform gain new agent-building, data-grounding and governance capabilities, while SAP’s tabular AI model heads to the International Space Station

BERLIN, Oct. 27, 2026: SAP SE (NYSE: SAP) today announced a series of AI innovations at SAP TechEd designed to help developers build, extend and govern AI agents across the enterprise. The updates span Joule Work, Joule Studio, SAP Business AI Platform and SAP Business Data Cloud.

Building and running agents

Joule Studio lets business users and developers build and extend agents with no-code and pro-code tools, choosing from more than 70 AI models. New agentic thinking capabilities in Joule Work plan and orchestrate multistep workflows, and support for the Agent2Agent and Model Context Protocol standards allows third-party agents to invoke Joule Agents through a governed gateway. Joule Studio also gains observability and administrative controls covering agent behaviour, model usage and spend. Deploying custom agents on the SAP-managed runtime remains free through December 2026 for select customers.

Governance at scale

SAP introduced the SAP Enterprise AI Gateway, which centralises authentication, policy enforcement, routing, monitoring and auditing of AI traffic. A new AI Governance Assistant helps customers meet EU AI Act requirements, alongside the Joule Assistant and SAP AI Agent Hub. SAP reiterated that customer data remains the customer’s own and is not shared to train large language models.

Grounding agents in business data

SAP Business Data Cloud adds an Ontology Manager that helps AI understand how data relates across teams and systems. SAP Knowledge Graph extends to SAP and non-SAP sources. Partnerships with Dremio and Databricks bring Apache Iceberg support, federated queries and SAP Databricks into the platform, and SAP Reltio will add multidomain master data management.

Tabular AI, from supply chains to orbit

SAP unveiled SAP-RPT-2.0, adding anomaly detection and embeddings, and SAP-RPT-TS for forecasting in SAP Integrated Business Planning without custom machine learning. With HPE, SAP also announced the deployment of SAP-RPT on the Spaceborne Computer-2 aboard the International Space Station, where it is planned to support anomaly triage and mission-health reporting without sending data back to Earth.

Philipp Herzig, CTO of SAP SE, said the shift is from AI learning a business to AI running it, with Joule Work providing one experience across the SAP landscape and beyond.

Partners and availability

SAP highlighted an Intel collaboration linking enterprise workflows with autonomous robots, and new solution extensions with Docusign, Parloa and Redwood. Several capabilities are described as new or upcoming, so timing varies by product.
