Microsoft Introduces Supplier Engagement in Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management to Prepare Procurement for AI Agents

Public preview connects supplier experiences, procurement processes and enterprise data on a single extensible foundation

Microsoft today announced the public preview of Supplier Engagement in Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management, a capability that brings supplier interactions into one connected environment. Built on Microsoft Power Platform, it is designed to help organisations manage suppliers more consistently while establishing the data, context and governance needed for AI and agent-driven procurement.

Supplier processes often span registration, qualification, sourcing, purchasing and invoicing. When these run across separate portals, email and disconnected tools, organisations face fragmented supplier records and additional integration and governance work. As companies introduce AI agents into business processes, the challenge grows, because agents need access to business data and context while organisations must preserve the permissions, policies and controls that govern how work is done.

A connected approach to supplier engagement

Suppliers can register, maintain their information, respond to requests for quotation, confirm purchase orders and submit invoices through a supplier portal, while procurement teams manage supplier lifecycle activities within Supplier Engagement. Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management remains the foundation for operational procurement and legal-entity transactions.

Consistent supplier data across legal entities

Global vendor management provides a shared supplier profile in which contacts, addresses, certifications, capabilities and organisational details are maintained centrally. After qualification and approval, relevant information can be released into one or more legal entities for operational transactions. This reduces duplicate and inconsistent records for organisations whose suppliers work with multiple business units.

Extensible and controlled

Supplier Engagement uses Dataverse, Power Apps and Power Pages, allowing IT teams to adapt onboarding processes, capture additional information and tailor experiences for different supplier groups. Event-driven synchronisation and configurable mappings connect supplier data with Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management, while virtual entities make operational data available without copying it into Dataverse. Administrators can define data ownership and synchronisation boundaries to suit their architecture.

Foundation for agentic procurement

For agents to support procurement work, they need context as well as data, including the supplier relationship, the stage of a process, and the applicable permissions, approvals and business rules. By connecting supplier information with operational procurement processes, Supplier Engagement helps provide that foundation while maintaining the controls established in the organisation’s ERP environment.
