SAP Named a Leader for the 12th Time in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Digital Commerce Platforms
SAP has been named a Leader in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Digital Commerce Platforms, a recognition SAP says no other vendor has achieved 12 times since 2014. SAP believes the evaluation reflects its strengths in three areas that matter increasingly to enterprise commerce: using AI to make commerce more intelligent, supporting complexity at global scale, and connecting commerce with operational data.
AI that simplifies commerce
AI is changing how customers discover products, interact with businesses and complete purchases, and it is also creating opportunities to reduce the workload of commerce teams. SAP Commerce Cloud brings AI into customer experiences and commerce workflows while keeping the business controls that enterprise transactions require.
Ericsson illustrates the effect. Producing a customer quote once took more than two weeks. After digitising and streamlining its commerce processes with SAP Commerce Cloud, many requests are now completed in minutes or even seconds. With that foundation in place, Ericsson is exploring how AI agents could support quote creation, with employees remaining responsible for oversight and decisions.
Complexity at enterprise scale
Global enterprises rarely run a single storefront. They may operate across multiple brands, markets, sites, languages, currencies, channels and customer types, and they need consistency and control throughout. SAP Commerce Cloud is designed to manage that complexity while leaving room for the business to evolve.
Daimler Truck North America shows what a long-term foundation can deliver. Around 30,000 users interact with its commerce platform each day, and the company reports roughly 40% compound annual growth over the platform’s lifetime. SAP notes these results came from years of investment in platform modernisation, cloud migration, dealer collaboration and alignment between business and IT.
Commerce connected to operations
A strong customer experience depends on what happens behind the storefront. Customers expect accurate products, prices, inventory, entitlements and order information, which means commerce must work with the operational processes and enterprise data behind every interaction.
SAP Commerce Cloud, cloud ERP edition, which the report noted as a recent platform release, extends this approach to mid-sized and growing businesses running SAP Cloud ERP. Built for B2B companies that want to modernise customer engagement without added complexity, it turns pricing, availability, order and invoice data already held in the ERP into a self-service experience for customers. SAP says this brings faster deployment and lower total cost of ownership, with no middleware required.
This connection underpins what SAP calls Autonomous Unified Commerce: customer, commerce, operational and financial processes on a common data foundation, with AI embedded in business workflows to help organisations execute efficiently and drive profitable growth.
Looking ahead
SAP expects commerce to extend beyond the traditional storefront, as customers use AI-powered interfaces and assistants to find products, get answers and buy. Support for these channels is emerging through the Universal Commerce Protocol and the Model Context Protocol. SAP’s stated priority is to put AI into the daily operations that drive revenue and reduce cost, helping customers make complex commerce simpler.
Gartner does not endorse any vendor in its research publications, and the report reflects Gartner’s opinions rather than statements of fact.
