DACHSER Migrates Human Capital Management to SAP S/4HANA Cloud Through RISE with SAP

Key Takeaways

  • German logistics company DACHSER has migrated its human capital management (HCM) payroll and time management systems to the cloud using RISE with SAP.
  • The migration covers approximately 19,000 employees in Germany and was completed in June 2026 after eight months of collaboration with SAP.
  • The first payroll run following the migration was completed successfully in July 2026, with employee payments distributed on time.
  • SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) and SAP Integration Suite played important roles in connecting the cloud-based HCM environment with DACHSER’s existing systems.
  • The project supports DACHSER’s ambition to become the world’s most digitally integrated logistics service provider by 2030.

DACHSER Advances Its Cloud Transformation with SAP

DACHSER, a Germany-based transport and logistics company, has completed a major step in its digital transformation by migrating its human capital management systems to SAP S/4HANA Cloud through RISE with SAP.

Announced by SAP on October 14, 2026, the project involved moving payroll and time management capabilities for approximately 19,000 employees in Germany to the cloud.

The migration was completed in June 2026 following eight months of collaboration between DACHSER and SAP. The successful implementation provides a modernised foundation for the company’s HR operations while supporting its broader strategy to integrate business processes and digital capabilities across its international network.

DACHSER operates approximately 427 company-owned locations across 43 countries. The company reported revenue of €8.3 billion in 2025, reflecting the scale of its global logistics operations.

Successful Migration of Payroll and Time Management

Payroll and workforce time management are critical business functions, particularly for organisations employing thousands of people across multiple locations.

For DACHSER, migrating these capabilities required careful coordination to maintain business continuity and ensure employees continued receiving their salaries on time.

The first payroll run following the migration took place in July 2026 and was completed without reported complications. Employee payments were distributed on schedule.

Following the go-live, the project team conducted a four-week hypercare period to closely monitor system performance and address any emerging issues. Regular support responsibilities subsequently transferred to the company’s ongoing support arrangements in August.

The successful transition establishes a cloud-based foundation for DACHSER’s HR operations while reducing reliance on its previous hosting arrangement for these functions.

SAP BTP Supports Integration and Digital Workflows

SAP Business Technology Platform and SAP Integration Suite played important roles in the migration.

These technologies help connect applications, integrate business data and support the development of additional digital workflows.

DACHSER began licensing SAP BTP in 2024 and has been using its low-code capabilities to help employees digitise manual processes. For example, vehicle damage inspections that previously relied on paper checklists can now be documented through digital applications.

This approach allows employees to replace certain manual activities with more structured digital workflows without requiring every application to be developed from scratch.

The migration also supports DACHSER’s longer-term plans to introduce additional capabilities within the SAP SuccessFactors HCM Suite.

A Broader Strategy for Global Digital Integration

DACHSER’s cloud migration is part of a wider ambition to become the world’s most digitally integrated logistics service provider by 2030.

The company continues to use its own transport and warehouse management systems, which it began developing in the 1980s. These systems provide specialised capabilities for its logistics operations, while SAP supports key corporate functions such as finance and human capital management.

Under its SAP First strategy, DACHSER plans to introduce finance and HCM systems in acquired businesses before integrating its proprietary transport and warehouse management technologies.

This approach is intended to simplify the integration of acquisitions, standardise important corporate processes and improve the management of SAP licences across different countries.

The company has already applied this strategy in Italy and is planning further implementations across acquired businesses in the Iberian region.

Could RISE with SAP Expand to Finance?

DACHSER previously moved its SAP finance environment from an on-premises SAP ERP Central Component and SAP HANA deployment to Microsoft Azure in October 2024.

The company selected RISE with SAP for its HCM migration, but its finance environment remains on Azure under an existing three-year agreement.

DACHSER has indicated that RISE with SAP could become an option for its finance environment when that agreement expires.

Such a move would represent a potential next step in consolidating its cloud infrastructure and modernising additional enterprise systems. However, the company has not confirmed a decision to migrate finance to RISE with SAP.

Conclusion

DACHSER’s successful HCM migration demonstrates how large logistics organisations can modernise essential business systems while maintaining operational continuity.

By moving payroll and time management for 19,000 employees to SAP S/4HANA Cloud through RISE with SAP, the company has established a stronger foundation for its HR transformation and future digital initiatives.

The project also illustrates the importance of integration platforms, phased implementation and careful post-launch monitoring in enterprise cloud migrations.

As DACHSER works towards its 2030 digital integration goal, its experience could provide useful lessons for other logistics businesses seeking to modernise enterprise applications while retaining specialised systems that support their core operations.
